The Konawaena boys volleyball team opened the season with a victory at home on Friday, defeating Keaau in straight sets 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.

The defending BIIF champ Wildcats started off slowly, but found their rhythm by the end of the second set.

“Its the beginning of the season and the boys came out a little flat. But when it came time for them to start playing smarter, making better choices, they did,” Konawaena head coach Ainsley Keawekane said. “You can just tell by the scores that we really started to get going late in the second set.”

Benjamin McKinley led the offense with 17 assists. He connected well with Kealii Kuahuia, who picked up six kills, while also adding seven aces from the service line.

Across town, Kealakehe defeated Kohala in straight sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-10.
